            <p>Your letter came this morning. – <persName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#PilkingtonAlexander">Alexander's</persName> was so kind
               &amp; good. – but I was anxious about you. – You do not say how you are. It was right
               for me to tell <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#PilkingtonWilhelmina">Mrs.
                  Pilkington</persName> you were not as strong as I could wish – as she told me when
                  <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Emmie">Emmie</persName> came to me – though
               Emmie was much older than you. You need a mother – &amp; she will be everything you
               need. – The enclosed tells you about <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#WolleyEmily"
                  >Mrs. Wolley</persName> – I hope you have written to her – or will write. – If she
               is not able to come to <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Tore">Tore</placeName>, you
               &amp; <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#PilkingtonAlexander">Alexander</persName>
               might go &amp; see her at <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Athlone"
                  >Athlone</placeName>. – Tell her so. – </p>

            <p>I am glad you are all so happy &amp; dear <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Kath"
                  >Kath</persName> enjoying everything – about 6<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> or
                  7<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> of Sep. <persName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#LewinHarold">Harold Lewin</persName> is coming to stay
               with some old friends. <unclear>"The Raite Kerr Esq. Katlewoyle Edendury"</unclear>.
               He thinks it is only 10 miles from <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Tore"
                  >Tore</placeName> &amp; means to to drive over &amp; pay you a call. – </p>
            <p>He &amp; <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#CraikGeorge">Papa</persName> were poking
               for an hour over the "Landed Gentry." – &amp; found the <orgName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Lewin">Lewins of Kent</orgName> had existed there since
                  <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#QueenElizabethI">Queen Elizabeth</persName>.
               Papa has taken very much to both him &amp; <persName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#LewinEdith">Edith</persName>. – <persName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#LovellMinna">Miss Lovell</persName> – with the three boys
               &amp; <persName>Aunt Favoy</persName> were here yesterday for the day – &amp;
                  <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MrsAnderson">M<hi rend="superscript">rs.</hi>
                  Anderson</persName> &amp; <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#AndersonMary"
                  >Mary</persName> came for a few hours today. – I am tired &amp; glad to be at
               home. – but we go to the <orgName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Macmillan"
                  >Macmillans</orgName> as fixed for Friday to Monday. &amp; either coming or going
               I shall go round by <placeName>Woldingham</placeName> as <persName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#WolleyEmily">M<hi rend="superscript">rs.</hi>
                  Wolley</persName> wishes. – </p>
            <p>While I think of it – where is the opal ring you <unclear>once</unclear> put on &amp;
               showed me? You did not put it back in my jewel-case; is it safe in yours? It belonged
               to my <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MulockEliza">Aunt Eliza</persName> . – Please
               answer this. – </p>
            <p>I wonder what weather you have. Ours is perfect still. – not a cloud or a drop of
               rain. &amp; fearfully not. – We shall leave on the 19<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> –
               for somewhere!! – Nothing is settled beyond <placeName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Peterborough">Peterborough</placeName>. Papa talks
               longingly of <placeName>Arran</placeName> – we may end with a few days there. – The
                  <orgName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Paton">Patons</orgName> are all at <placeName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Corrie">Corrie</placeName> – &amp; take <placeName
                  ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#CorrieHouse">Corrie House</placeName> for September. The
               boys are under tents in <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Sannox">Sannox</placeName>
               – &amp; <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#PatonMona">Mona</persName> alone beside

Wed. Wednesday Aug August 10 – /87 1887 The Corner House Shortlands, R.O Kent. My darling child

Your letter came this morning. – Alexander's was so kind & good. – but I was anxious about you. – You do not say how you are. It was right for me to tell Mrs. Pilkington you were not as strong as I could wish – as she told me when Emmie came to me – though Emmie was much older than you. You need a mother – & she will be everything you need. – The enclosed tells you about Mrs. Wolley – I hope you have written to her – or will write. – If she is not able to come to Tore, you & Alexander might go & see her at Athlone. – Tell her so. –

I am glad you are all so happy & dear Kath enjoying everything – about 6th or 7th of Sep. Harold Lewin is coming to stay with some old friends. "The Raite Kerr Esq. Katlewoyle Edendury". He thinks it is only 10 miles from Tore & means to to drive over & pay you a call. –
