                <p>Will you do me one favor? I wish to have three (out of the usual no) copies here
                    in <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Edinburgh"><choice>
                            <abbr>Edin.</abbr>
                            <expan>Edinburgh</expan>
                        </choice></placeName>
                    <hi rend="underline">on the day of publication</hi> – Could you manage to send
                    them that they may reach me on that day? – They might come in your bookseller’s

                        Marston</persName>’s<lb/>

                        Villas</placeName><lb/></p>
                <p>For the remaining account between us – will you still kindly rest my banker until
                    I ask it? – And I do hope the book will sell – that I may have (as I believe I
                    understood you I <hi rend="underline">should</hi> in that case – though I was
                    then to ill to argue the point) the <measure type="currency">£150</measure>
                    <del rend="scribble"><gap quantity="1" unit="word" reason="illegible"/></del>
                    for <title corresp="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Ogilvies">the Olgilvies</title>. For
                    indeed I do deserve it – I have tried so hard to perfect the novel in every way
                    &amp; now I can truly say that there is not a sentence or line, which I thought
                    could be improved – that I have not done so to the best of my power.</p>
                <p>I shall be in <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#London">London</placeName> very
                    soon now – when I hope to have the pleasure of seeing yourself &amp; <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#ChapmanClara">Mrs. Chapman</persName>.</p>

Edinburgh on the day of publication – Could you manage to send them that they may reach me on that day? – They might come in your bookseller’s parcel. Mr. Chambers’ office. or – if that would be less trouble to you – I believe there is a parcel sent every Saturday from Messrs Orr & Co to the Chambers – only please let me have them on the 9 th here.
